3.After World War II, problems emerged about over the issue of establishing a Korean national government. On August 15, 1948, the Republic of Korea was established in the South. On September 9, 1948, the North established the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. In July 1972, the two sides agreed to work toward peaceful reunification and an end to the hostile atmosphere.
